Nine innings was not enough to decide this United East Conference match-up between Rosemont and visiting Cairn on Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day at Heuser Park. In the bottom of the 11th it was freshman Caiden Spinelli knocking in sophomore Isaac Bugman for the walk-off win. After the game, Spinelli had this to say: "It felt great getting the game winning hit for the second time this season. I went into the at-bat with a lot of confidence, and it felt amazing being able to produce for the team."
Bugman got the 11th inning started by reaching by error on a hard-hit ball to the right side. The misplayed ball let him advance to second, bringing Spinelli to the plate. Spinelli hit a hard shot down the third base line to score Bugman. "It felt good to score (the winning run). I was just trying to make a good read, and the bounce went our way." (Bugman)
The home team came back from an 11-4 deficit on the arms of senior Justin Gonzalez, freshman Gisella Schiano, and sophomore Solomon Denmark. The trio combined to throw the final 4 2/3 innings without surrendering a run. Denmark earned the win and shared his thoughts after the game: "This win was special for all our supporters and team. We fought hard until the end. Through adversity we are finishing this year united as Ravens."
The Ravens also got a strong starting performance by sophomore Carson Pence who went 3 2/3 innings. At the plate, Spinelli collected 6 hits to pace the offense. Senior catcher Chase Masten had three hits and two runs scored.
The Ravens take the field next when they host Penn State Abington on Friday, April 24th for a 3pm United East Conference game.
