Championship Series: Men's Golf 2021-2022 Championship Article

2022 Men's Golf Champions

The 2021–2022 season for Rosemont Men's Golf ended just how you would expect based on the previous four years–with a championship. Not only was this becoming a dynasty, but the program was putting the school on notice. The Ravens became a school to be feared at these invitationals, and their scores backed it up. This championship victory would mark the final championship of their four-year stretch of dominance, but it did not disappoint.

The Ravens were led by a starting group that contained five players who had the potential to lead the team on any given day. The starting five—Samuel Reynolds, Liam O'Rourke, Davis Martin, Jake Torres, and Aidan Rigney—formed a cohesive unit that delivered across every stage of the season. Each brought a unique strength to the course, but what made the group especially effective was its collective reliability. There was no weak link in the lineup, and the group consistently proved that throughout the season. For the reserves, Ryan Slee and Jesse Lang rounded out the squad. Interim Head Coach and former player Paul Fedele led the charge this year for the first two tournaments, and to say he did a great job would be an understatement. Anthony Hoffman was then hired to continue the work of Fedele, which he did at a very high level.

Rosemont dominated the early part of the season, placing 2nd, 1st, 1st, 2nd, and 1st in their first five invitationals. They also added another 3rd place finish before the United East Conference Championship took place. For the United East Preview Invitational hosted by Rutgers-Camden, Rosemont shot a 316, led by Liam O'Rourke with a tournament low 73. He also took home the individual victory for the tournament, his first ever. For the Ursinus tri-match, Rosemont came out on top with a score of 342, with Jake Torres leading the way. He shot a personal best and tournament best 81, while Liam O'Rourke was right behind him at 82. At the Eastern Invitational, Samuel Reynolds took home the Individual Championship, shooting a tournament best 73, and the Ravens won in a tie breaker for the Team Championship. All these outstanding performances from all the different players shaped the backbone of the Ravens, who were now trying to repeat history, this time in a different conference, at the United East Championship on April 24.

That preparation paid off at the United East Conference Championship, where Rosemont delivered its most complete performance of the year. Eight teams competed in a close race to crown a champion, but winning by a margin of 11 strokes was the Rosemont Ravens. They shot a 313 as a team, with standout performances from multiple players. To start, Samuel Reynolds shot a 74, tied for 2nd overall. Right behind him was Liam O'Rourke, who placed 6th with a 79. Both Davis Martin and Jake Torres shot an 80, which tied for 7th place overall. To round out the lineup, Aidan Rigney shot a 92, which was tied for 30th. In a highly competitive match, the Ravens were able to come out on top, delivering four straight conference championships back to their campus.

Beyond the numbers, the 2022 championship spoke to the culture that continued to drive the program forward. The Ravens' success was rooted in unity and accountability, with each player committed to a shared goal. Their ability to trust one another and perform collectively in high-pressure moments once again proved to be the difference.

In the broader context of Rosemont athletics, this championship further solidified men's golf as the program's standard-bearer. The 2021–2022 season was not simply a return to the top, but a reaffirmation of everything the Ravens had built over the years. With another conference title secured, Rosemont continued to define its legacy—not as a fleeting contender, but as a program built for sustained success.
