Angel Ricks
Position: Center/Forward
Â
Angel Ricks was asked what was different about the championship season in comparison to other seasons. She described the season as fast-paced, intense, and high-energy. The culture of this team was fun, encouraging, and full of hard work. Ricks emphasized the importance of the relationships she built on her team, and how that helped her and her teammates to perform every game. This season had a feeling of commitment from players and coaches. "Everyone wanted to be there." Ricks stated during her interview, "everyone pulled their own weight and we had fun."
One of Angel Ricks' most memorable moments of the 2018-2019 season was qualifying and competing in the NCAA Tournament. "We felt untouchable," claimed Ricks. Although many challenges were presented to the Rosemont Women's Basketball team, they still managed to tune out the noise, and stay focused on the task at hand. Angel was also asked how did the Women's and Men's teams winning both championship titles in the 2018-2019 season bring the community together? Ricks stated that fans were engaged, traveling near and far for away games, hosting tailgates and the Rosemont fans were always the loudest at every game.
Ricks is downhearted about the news of the merger and she reflects on her favorite memories of Rosemont, that being the community, Dante's omelets, and living in the residence halls with her teammates.
Angel Ricks last piece of advice for younger student athletes:
"Know who you are, and what you want out of life. The ball will stop bouncing one day, be a student first always."
Rayne Reber
2018-2019 Head Coach of the Women's Basketball Team
Rayne Reber, former Head Coach of Rosemont's Women's Basketball team, reflects on the unforgettable 2018–2019 championship season, her fifth year leading the program. Looking back, Coach Reber credits much of that year's success to the strong recruitment efforts made before the season began. She describes that roster as a "strong team," highlighting several standout players: Ke'alohilani Naone-Carter, an All-Conference selection; Shirle Brown, who was just one shy of earning Defensive Player of the Year; Ayanna Thompson, the team's point guard who reached 500 career assists; and Ashley Murray, who earned Player of the Year honors for the 2018–2019 season and was Rosemont's leading scorer. Coach Reber fondly recalls how the team's accomplishments that season paved the way to the NCAA Tournament. The Rosemont Women's Basketball team remained undefeated at home and earned a regional ranking that remarkable year.
Coach Reber also reflected on how special the championship was. With the 2018-2019 Championship being the first and last of the Rosemont Women's Basketball Program, Reber cherishes that her team was able to make history at Rosemont College, a place that gave her her first head coaching opportunity.
