Another bus ride. Another challenge. Welcome to life in the playoffs.
After a historic performance by
Maciana Mazzeo and the Rosemont women's soccer team on Monday night
during a 6-2 win over Keystone College, there's no rest for the weary as the Colonial States Athletic Conference playoffs continue. This time, instead of a trip up the Northeast Extension to La Plume, it will be a journey over the New Jersey Turnpike for the Ravens as they take on top-seed Centenary in the CSACÂ Semifinals, starting at 2 p.m.
Here are some things you need to know before the Ravens and Cyclones meet up for the second time this season.
THE LAST TIME: The two teams last met at Rosemont on Oct. 2, with the Cyclones winning a 4-0 contest at the Athletic Complex. Chloe Christopher had the first two goals of the match for Centenary- including one in the final three minutes of the first half that proved to be a backbreaker. The Cyclones outshot the Ravens that day by a 27-4 margin and an 11-1 edge in shots on goal.
Emma Lindsay made seven saves that day.
SINCE THEN... If there is something to take out of that, it is how much the Ravens have changed since that moment. They are 5-2 overall since that game with a 5-1 record in CSAC games. They have outscored opponents by a 17-9 margin in the seven games since the Centenary contest. (If you take out a non-conference loss to College of Staten Island, that margin has increased to 17-4.) There have been four shutouts posted by the Ravens in those seven games.Â
SETTING A GOAL:Â Chloe Christopher from Centenary and
Maciana Mazzeo from Rosemont are currently first and second in goals scored among all CSAC players. Christopher- who had two in the win at Rosemont- has 16 goals on the season. Mazzeo- who had her second career four-goal game and a school record 10-point night in the win over Keystone- has 15 goals on the season.  Eleven of Mazzeo's 15 goals on the year have occurred since the game against Centenary on Oct. 2. The Cyclones' Amanda Benoit currently sits third in scoring with 14 goals.
MADZ SKILLS:
Madeline Polino scored her sixth goal of the year in Monday night's win. It was the second time this year that the senior was able to score goals in back to back games (she also did that against Wilson and Notre Dame) and the third time in her career it has happened.
SAVE, LINDSAY: Â Emma Lindsay's 117 saves on the 2018 season currently ranks her third in the single-season saves lists for the Ravens. She can move up to second on Wednesday with 14 saves, passing Gina Donnelly's mark of 130 set in 2011. Gina Kaiser (2016) holds the single season record with 152 saves.
